ABOUT THE CHOIR

Originally founded in 1948 as the Dominion Life Choir, the K-W Singers is a multi-age, four-part adult choir located in Kitchener, Ontario.  The choir performs two concerts per year, in December and April/May.  They also perform mini concerts in retirement homes throughout the community.

The choir is a registered charity and supports itself through donations, ticket sales and various fundraising activities.  Jennifer Carter has been the director since 2022, and Donna Mak has been the accompanist since 1998.

Donna Mak, Piano

AD, MMus., BMus., ARCT, RMT (ORMTA, CFMTA)

Donna is passionate about teaching young piano students of all levels at her private studio in Kitchener (www.donnamakpiano.com), and feels lucky to be entrusted with helping them to develop a lifelong love of music. Aside from being a choral accompanist, she has been a long time examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations (Canada) and The Royal Conservatory Certificate Program (USA), as well as a festival and competitions adjudicator. Donna has had an extensive performing history as a pianist, collaborative artist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist with orchestras. She has appeared on TV and radio broadcasts, and has been a member of many elite musical groups, such as the American Liszt Society, and the Hartt Contemporary Players who regularly premiered new compositions. She has been the recipient of  countless awards and honours throughout her childhood and into her professional career field, and she will forever be grateful to her parents and past teachers for all their support and encouragement along the way.

Donna has organized and presented concerts in support of numerous charities, and also encourages her students to become actively involved in  the community.   Aside from music, Donna's other interests include photography, baking and edible art, special events, social painting, birds, flowers, and watching Leafs hockey.  Most recently, she gave in to getting a pandemic puppy and has been loving every crazy and challenging moment raising her energetic fur baby, including attempting to teach him piano!
